  64.           NiCad 1.0 is a memory-resident program which keeps track of
  65.           laptop battery use and provides a visual bar graph of the battery
  66.           charge. Many battery management features, including deep
  67.           discharge of batteries, up to 7 low-battery alarms, "pop-up"
  68.           windows, optional on-screen clock and charge indicator, and
  69.           battery charge history. Plus it works with ALL laptop computers.

  102.      memory-resident program which will answer your question. At any time,
  103.      from within any text-mode program, you can "pop-up" a bar graph and

  172.      Printing the Manual

  175.      The NiCad User's Guide will be approximately 35 pages long when
  176.      printed. Also, the maximum length of its pages is 59 lines, this
  177.      allows it to be printed on all printers including laser printers
  178.      limited to 60 lines-per-page.
  179.  
  180.      The document contains IBM graphics characters (like "│", "╥", and
  181.      "█"). If your printer cannot print these characters, use the program
  182.      PRINTEXT.COM included with the NiCad package to convert these
  183.      characters into printable versions (like "|", "+", and "#"). For
  184.      example type the following to print the User's Manual to LPT1:

  186.           PRINTEXT NICAD.DOC /C
  187.  
  188.      Because of these characters, you should use a fixed-pitch font (not
  189.      proportionally spaced) for proper printing of the diagrams.

  192.      Installation

  195.      NiCad should be installed on your boot-disk so that is loaded into
  196.      memory each time the computer is restarted.

  198.      Follow these steps to install NiCad on a floppy diskette:

  200.           1. Insert the NiCad distribution diskette into your computer's
  201.              diskette drive.
  202.  
  203.              This installation procedure will assume that drive A: contains
  204.              the NiCad distribution diskette and that drive B: is the
  205.              destination drive where the files will be installed.
  206.  
  207.           2. Type the following command to copy the files from the
  208.              distribution disk.
  209.  
  210.                COPY A:*.* B: and press <Enter>
  211.  
  212.              If your system is equipped with one drive, you will be
  213.              prompted to swap diskettes several times (you may wish to use
  214.              XCOPY instead to reduce the amount of swapping required).

  217.      Follow these steps to install NiCad on a hard-drive:

  225.           1. Insert the NiCad diskette into your computer's diskette drive.

  227.           2. Log onto the hard-disk drive, for example if it is drive C:

  232.           3. Create a new directory for the NiCad distribution files by
  233.              entering the following command:

  235.                MD \NICAD and press <Enter>

  237.           4. Change to the newly created directory by typing:

  241.           5. Copy the files from the distribution disk to the new
  242.              directory:

  247.      Quick Start

  250.      The NiCad package includes a menu-driven batch file, INTRO.BAT, which
  251.      can be used to print the documentation and load NiCad into memory. To
  252.      run the INTRO program, just type the following at the DOS prompt:

  254.           INTRO and press <Enter>
  255.  
  256.      If you would rather just load the program immediately, type the
  257.      following:
  258.  
  259.           NICAD and press <Enter>
  260.  
  261.      NiCad will display a list of command-line options and tell you that it
  262.      is installed in memory and ready for activation. To "pop-up" the NiCad
  263.      main window, just hold down the <Alt> key and press the <.> (period)
  264.      key.

  274.      NiCad is provided at no charge for evaluation purposes only. It is a
  275.      copyrighted program and is neither free nor public domain software.
  276.      You are entitled to evaluate the program on your own equipment for no
  277.      more than 30 days. At the end of this period you must either register
  278.      the program or cease using it.

  280.      As a registered user of NiCad, you will receive:

  282.           1. The registered version of the software which omits all
  283.              registration reminders and delays, and therefore uses less
  284.              memory.
